David Loiacono
David Loiacono

A native of Wheaton Illinois, and resident for the last 40 years, David lives in his childhood home that, he and his wife purchased from his parents in 1986. David is currently the Assistant Director of Experiential Education and an Instructor Pharmacy Practice at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Pharmacy in Downers Grove IL. .David received his BS degree in Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1986. After graduation he returned to Wheaton where he and his brother purchased their father's pharmacy. They were named as one of the "Independent Superstars" in 1989 by "Drug Topics" magazine. A strong proponent of education he received the "Partners in Patient Education Award" from the Illinois Pharmacy Foundation in 1994. He first realized his interest in adult education when he became a preceptor for pharmacy students in his community pharmacy in the early 90's. Through his affiliation with the UIC College of Pharmacy and Midwestern, he was assigned students who had so many various backgrounds, he quickly became aware of how adults all learn differently.

Realizing that learning never stops he decided to pursue a graduate degree. He earned a Master of Public Health degree and a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior degree from Benedictine University in 1997. While pursuing his masters, he experienced first hand the trials and tribulations of adult education ; in order to meet the demands of family, store ownership and school, he began working as an overnight pharmacist at Osco Drug in Schaumburg, IL. While attending Benedictine University David was involved in initial research for the Benedictine Adult Education program.

After graduation from Benedictine in 1997 David began teaching in the Health Care Leadership program here at National-Louis University. He continued to work the night shift for Osco and work part-time at Wheaton Pharmacy which his brother still owns. He left Osco and began working at his current position in 1999. He still works at his family's pharmacy part time, to stay current in the profession.

David's wife who has a BS in Nursing, works part time in Labor and Delivery at Central DuPage Hospital. She is currently taking classes at NLU to become a Certified School Nurse. David and his wife believe strongly in adult education as a way of life, they are learning something new each day. Family being their first priority, they never have a dull moment in their house as they juggle raising their seven children with work and play.
